A year ago the Seattle Mariners needed to create as much payroll flexibility as possible to try something different with the lineup. Why? Because the ownership is full of bottom-line businessmen who are awful at the business of baseball and make the team and its fans pay for their ineptitude.
One of the moves made by Jerry Dipoto and Justin Hollander was sending third baseman Eugenio Suarez to the Arizona Diamondbacks for backup catcher Seby Zavala and right-handed reliever Carlos Vargas.
Suarez was terrific for Seattle in 2022, about average in 2023, and bounced back some for Arizona this past year.
Would it make sense for Seattle to reacquire Suarez for 2025?
Maybe.
