MANILA, Philippines — Can’t spell Sherwin without win as the Creamline head coach Meneses stood alone with 100 victories in the Premier Volleyball League.
Three years and a day after his first win as Creamline coach, Meneses earned the latest achievement as the only PVL coach with 100 wins after sweeping Chery Tiggo, 25-10, 27-25, 25-21, to take Game 1 of the best-of-three quarterfinals series on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.
As Meneses’ legend keeps growing winning 100 of his 115 games and achieving a rare grand slam last year, his focus is the Cool Smashers’ continuous improvement as they move a win closer to their 17th straight semifinals.

“I’m happy to have achieved the 100th win, but I hope more wins will come, especially this season and conference. I hope we can keep adding more victories, especially in our upcoming games,” said Meneses in Filipino.
“We’re focused on the future and the next games. That’s where my focus is. Hopefully, things keep improving, and the team I handle continues to get better. They’re really good and obedient, so the chemistry between the coaches and players is solid.”
Meneses achieved the 100th win while juggling his duty with National University, which he led to a 7-0 first-round sweep in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

He won seven of Creamline’s 10 titles — the coach with the most championships in the league.
Alyssa Valdez, who has been part of Meneses’ coaching career since he worked as a deputy for Ateneo and handled the Bureau of Customs in Shakey’s V-League, is happy to be part of her longtime coach’s success.

“Coach Sherwin is amazing! I’ve been with him since our Ateneo days and with other teams. We’ve been together for so long, and it feels great to be part of his journey as he achieves milestones like this,” he said.
“These milestones really show how strong and effective he is as a coach. I’m truly grateful and blessed to be under his guidance.”
Like Meneses, Valdez is also keeping her focus on their goal to win a fifth straight PVL All-Filipino championship when they try to sweep Chery Tiggo in Game 2 on Saturday at Ynares Center Antipolo.
“This is really important to us and to the whole management. We rely on that familiarity with the PVL conference and others. It gives us an advantage,” she said. “Having this long history together works in our favor. We’re hoping we can continue this journey and achieve even more milestones in the future. Hopefully, by God’s will.”
