The Colorado Rockies have relieved manager Bud Black and bench coach Mike Redmond of their duties, the team announced in a statement on Sunday.
Third base coach Warren Schaeffer has been named interim manager.
Colorado is off to a historically bad start, sitting in the basement of the stacked National League West division with an abysmal 7-33 record, and a minus-128 run differential.
The team tied the worst 37-game start to an MLB season at 6-31 and is on pace to surpass last year’s debacle in Chicago when the White Sox set the all-time worst record at 41-121.
Black has been at the helm of the Rockies since 2017 and has a 544-690 record with just two playoff appearances, failing to make it out of the divisional round.
Despite the unsuccessful tenure, he is the winningest manager in Rockies history with 10 more wins than Clint Hurdle, who managed the team from 2002-2009.
The Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres 9-3 on Sunday to snap an eight-game losing streak.
