Tom Brady sure is making his presence known in his new role as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Raiders are coming off a 4-13 season and are in desperate need of a team reset. They already made two major moves, hiring Pete Carroll as head coach and John Spytek as the general manager, leaving the starting quarterback position as the next box to tick off.
Brady was highly influential in the Raiders’ HC and GM hirings, and no one knows the QB position better than the seven-time Super Bowl champion.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the seven-time Super Bowl champion reportedly “ran into” Rams QB Matthew Stafford at a ski resort in Montana. Rapoport stressed that the meeting was unplanned and that Brady was not hosting or recruiting Stafford.
The report comes off the heels of Fox NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reporting that Brady has been actively recruiting Stafford and that this run-in at a ski resort was no coincidence.
Rapoport’s colleague at NFL Network, Tom Pelissero, reached out to Brady’s longtime agent Don Yee who disputed Schultz’s report.
“I know that reporters sometimes make mistakes in their haste, but this story’s inaccurate,” Yee said to Pelissero when asked about Brady “hosting” Stafford for a recruiting visit.
Regardless of the intentions behind the meeting in Montana, the Raiders are already linked to the 37-year-old Stafford, who was permitted by Los Angeles to talk to other teams on Feb. 22.
If the Rams were to move on from Stafford, Las Vegas certainly seems like a prime destination. The quarterback carries a lofty $49.7 million cap hit for 2025, but the Raiders are well-equipped to take on his contract. As of Wednesday, the Silver and Black sit second in the NFL with just over $99.5 million in cap space, per Over The Cap.
However, Rams head coach Sean McVay reiterated on the Fitz & Whit podcast this week that the Rams’ “first goal in mind” is to have Stafford back under centre for the 2025 season.
With the new league year set to begin on March 12, football fans may be getting a resolution to the Stafford saga sooner rather than later. For now, let’s just wonder who the better skier is between two of the best quarterbacks of the last 20 years.
