Iconic former NSW coach Phil Gould is not impressed by the stink between Aaron Woods and Billy Slater ahead of Origin II.
Woods called Slater a “grub” on radio last week, to which the Maroons coach gave an emotional response and referenced the late Queensland player and coach Paul Green.
Speaking to Nine’s Today in Perth this morning, Gould did not seem impressed with the entire saga.
“I’ve got a really long answer to that, and I’ve got a short answer,” Gould said.
“The short answer is I don’t think that is the way you promote Origin, and I don’t think that was needed.
“It relates to our rugby league media which I find at times to be toxic, to be childish.
“If you wanted to fire up Queensland this is just another way to do it… having their coach attacked like that will certainly be fuel for fire.”
