MANILA, Philippines—La Salle inched closer to successfully defending its World University Basketball Series (WUBS) championship after beating Japan University-Select Team to advance to the finals.
The Green Archers defeated the Japanese, 88-75, at Yoyogi National Stadium on Sunday afternoon to reach the WUBS Finals for the second straight year.

Mike Phillips recorded another double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds to keep La Salle’s back-to-back championship bid alive.
Kean Baclaan led the Green Archers’ offense with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting night from the field.
Japan University didn’t go down without a fight as Ishikawa Kouki scored 14 while Sato Yu and Ogawa Eijirou finished with 11 points each.

The Green Archers will face either Korea University or Nippon Sports Science University in the finale.
Meanwhile, University of the Philippines fell to the University of Sydney, 96-77, in the classification game.
Terrence Fortea led the Fighting Maroons anew in scoring with 18 points. UP crashed out of the tournament with a 0-2 record.
