MANILA, Philippines–Justin Brownlee hit a three to force overtime before Kevin Quiambao delivered the finishing blows as Gilas Pilipinas survived host Saudi Arabia, 95-88, to reach the quarterfinals of the Fiba Asia Cup early Tuesday (Manila time) at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
Brownlee came through with 3.7 seconds left in regulation to even the count at 79-all before Quiambao buried two triples in the extra period to cap off a 17-point performance as Gilas overcame a tough Saudi side to set up a last-eight battle with Group A winner Australia.

That despite Gilas losing steam after a 10-point first quarter lead and looking like it was about to head home with a 77-71 deficit with 1:35 to go in the fourth.
Brownlee dropped 29 points on top of four rebounds and five assists while AJ Edu, Dwight Ramos and Scottie Thompson also came up big for the Philippines.
Edu had 17 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, Ramos posted 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists while Thompson tallied four points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
The Philippines weathered the big performances of prolific scorer Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman and big Mohammad Alsuwailem.

Abdur-Rahkman scored 33 points on eight threes while Alsuwailem bucked three fouls in the third to make 26 points and 14 rebounds.
Brownlee and Edu had back-to-back baskets to trim Saudi’s lead down to 77-76, but Alsuwailem scored off an airball by Abdur-Rahkman, time down to 8.4 seconds in the fourth, for a three-point lead by the host.
Gilas went to Brownlee off the inbound, and the player with a number of big shots for club and country delivered the tying three from the left elbow. He also forced Abdur-Rahkman to miss a corner shot on the next possession to force overtime.
Quiambao’s corner three began a run of six straight points. He also unloaded a second triple that made it 90-81 for Gilas with two minutes left in the extension.
