Canada’s Leylah Fernandez is going to come home with a great deal of momentum on her side.
Fernandez continued a huge week with a dramatic 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) win over No. 3 seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the semifinals of the Citi Open on Saturday in Washington.
Fernandez, from Laval, Que., is one win away from her fourth career WTA Tour title. This week has included a win over top seed Jessica Pegula.
Fernandez will have a quick turnaround, as she’s expected to play in the opening round of National Bank Open presented by Rogers on Monday in Montreal.
Fernandez is ranked 36th in the world. She’ll enter the top 30 after the Washington tournament.
