The right-hander continued his rehab from Tommy John surgery on Saturday, tossing 5.2 innings for triple-A Buffalo. Bieber allowed two runs on four hits, while striking out six and allowing one walk.
During an appearance on Blair and Barker on Friday, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Bieber’s goal for Saturday’s start was 70-75 pitches. The 30-year-old threw 78 pitches against Worcester, 54 of which were strikes.
Bieber generated 14 whiffs and his fastball averaged 92.7 m.p.h., topping out at 93.9 m.p.h.
Schneider added that Bieber, Toronto’s big addition at the trade deadline, would get one more rehab start with the target of 80-85 pitches before discussing the next steps.
