Australia will be looking to secure a rare Ashes whitewash when they take the field for a day-night Test at the MCG on Thursday.

Since the introduction of a multi-format series in 2013, neither team have managed to go through without dropping a game at some stage.

However, through the six ODI and T20 matches thus far, Australia have won all of them in rather convincing fashion, placing a heap of pressure on England.

Speaking to media ahead of the red-ball fixture, injured star Sophie Molineux admitted the squad had their sights set on going 7-0 against their bitter rivals.

“The idea of a whitewash against England is really appealing to the girls,” she said.

“Especially after the first six games and how dominant they’ve been. Knowing that Australian squad, they are gonna want to finish it off really strongly.

“I do think the girls are firing and do want to walk away whitewashing the English.”

Ash Gardner and Alyssa Healy are both under an injury cloud for the historic clash, which will mark the first time a women’s Test will be played at the MCG in over 75 years.

Both players missed the final T20 due to injury, but are expected to be fit on Thursday.
