A wrench may have just been thrown into trade deadline plans across the league.

Marchand left in the first period against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday after he was hit from behind by Pierre-Olivier Joseph. The incident occurred 5:56 into the game with the Bruins leading 1-0.

Marchand’s legs appeared to give out as he fell head and shoulders first awkwardly into the boards. He remained down and had to be helped off the ice.

The 36-year-old Marchand is second on the Bruins in scoring this season with 21 goals and 47 points. He also had one goal in four games to help Canada win the 4 Nations Face-Off last month.
